NATIONAL SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS TEXEL 2024
This year four of our NASA surf team boys participated in the Dutch National Surf Championship (NK): Jaas Roeper, Senne Roeper, Ties Heetveld and Mees Koch. All four of them made it to the semi finals.
General Competition Information
The whole competition consits of three rounds, two in the Netherlands and one in France. The first qualification round takes place on Texel, an island in the north of the Netherlands. After successfully completing the first round the best four participants go on to Scheveningen to surf at the semi finals. The last round - the finals - always takes place in Seignosse, France.
Extra Rules
Additionally to the surfers who qualified during this years competition, there is always finalists of the previous year and people who presented themselves very well throughout international competitions, who are automaticallyqualified for the second round in Scheveningen.
Competition Rules
The duration of a heat can differ, but it’s always between 20 and 30 minutes. An exception is the final round, there a heat usually takes 20 to 45 minutes. In order to get evaluated, two feet have to be on the board while the hands have to be off the rails. In case of doubts, the head judge will decide whether to count the score or not. Per heat, each surfer is judged by three to five regular jury members, plus a head judge. Usually the surfers can ride up to 15 waves during one heat, if not announced differently by the organization team.
Point System
Per wave, each surfer can gain from minimum zero up to maximum ten points. The total score is a combination of the two best waves surfed per participant with a maximum score of 20.00 points. The surfers’ mavoeuvres are judged by speed, power and flow, whereas innovative, progressive and varying manoeuvres give extra points.
